A little more evil...

Instead of drawing in more costume, I decided up the evil factor just by painting the face with a more wicked expression.  These little guys have big cute eyes, and so I just reduced them a bit and that seemed to do the trick.

I love snow / drawing days.

I'm also thinking of the next challenge, but I'll wait a few more days to post it.

Swamp hag

I wanted to go with creepy evil. So a mutant snail witch covered in her "babies" is what i came up with. Imagine if Cloris Leachmen and a gastropod got it on. Yup, try and sleep now.

Lost Tribe of the Golden Lion Monkeys

Although most primates are somewhat curious about their environments, these little guys are numbered at about 1500, 500 of which are in captivity.  So whatever their evolutionary plan was, it didn't work out too well for them.  Are they the most timid, harmless animal as the challenge called for, hmm,  I dunno.  They're cute, little and bright orange.  So I went for Evil Which Doctor.  Not finished by any means, just sorta sketching out loud.  This challenge was actually kind of hard because every time I came across a harmless animal, I couldn't see fitting them into an evil character.  For example, I almost went for Tarsier. But with their giant globe eyes, they already seem alien and starwarsish. I wouldn't have to do anything to them.

You'll poke your eye out, kid!

and done.  I really like the way this came out.  I'm pleased,  and i'm gonna continue using PS.   PS handles layers much better as well, with Painter, I really couldn't get anymore than 4-5 layers without experiencing major drag. (and weird effects would take place when you flattened it, depending on each layers mode).

Now to start up that animal challenge.  I think I may go with either Red Panda or Echidna (a really cool little animal, like a porcupine, but shyer and has a long snout)

Shhh....He's coming to town...

started painting....IN Photoshop.  It's far from done, but I'm digging PS.  This is the first time I've actually sat down and played around with the brushes in an actual painting.  It's very fast, and smooth.  In painter, I've found that you really need to 'work' the medium.  It can get frustrating when you really want to just have at it.   I'm going to keep going in PS, work down to the details, maybe throw on some color tones, then do the snow, wind and some added brush strokes in painter.

Sain Nekvos - The Viking God of the Winter Wind

Sain Nekvos was a brutal Viking God, who would come to the aid of believers while in the midst of battle. According to legend, he would give blessings and gifts to those he deemed worthy. To enemies he brought forth the cruel winter wind, which he ruled over. He rode atop Ruedov, the mythical giant reindere beast, whose footsteps would leave a coal-like black stain upon the white snow. Believers would give thanks to him (and friends as well) on the Darkest day in the land, the Winter Solstice.

Over the centuries, his legend changed. Most dramatically came after one particular battle, where he failed to come to the aid of true believers. Soon, tribes far and wide assumed his power had weakened. His myth transformed into children's tales of forgotten times. During Pagan years and eventually after the Romans conquered the land, parents began telling their children of a wise old man, named Saint Nicholas, who would give gifts of gold or food to good children on Dec. 25th.

And that is the true legend of Santa Claus.

--- Here's my sketch. Going to start drawing tonight. Way fun!
